While Shepherds Watched

Hi Everyone,

The first week of our Advent study “Figures of the Crèche”  we were all about angels, searching the Scriptures for the places where we encounter angels in the narrative of the Christmas story and considering their place at the crèche.  Then for the second week, we looked at the characters of the Magi, or wise men, or as I would call them wise ones. Now in the last week of our 3-week study, we will consider the shepherds. Depending on how you feel about sheep might shape how you feel about shepherds.  Have you considered how you feel about shepherds?  What were those shepherds like who were “keeping watch over their flocks by night?” Were they young?  Strong?  Smart?  Trustworthy? Come to the crèche this Friday morning, and bring your imagination.

Coming attractions:

Community Dinner – Tuesday, December 16. Kitchen prep begins at 2:30, and help is needed.  Even if you can only show up for an hour, your help would be appreciated.

Outdoor Advent Wreath lighting  (on the front lawn of the church) – Sunday, December 21 we will light the fourth candle at 4:30.

Blue Christmas Worship Service — Shenendehowa United Methodist Church, 971 Rt. 146, on Sunday, December 21 at 7:00 pm.  A worship service for those whom the Christmas Season does not bring the joy and happiness that is advertised and expected. The cause may be a significant loss, or just a feeling of being overwhelmed by holiday preparations. A Blue Christmas Service is a quiet worship, using scripture, candle lighting, music and meditations to focus on the comfort God offers during dark times.   This service has been a blessing to those who struggle during the Christmas season, and is rewarding to all who attend.

Family Movie Night – Friday, December 19 at 6:30. Disney’s A Christmas Carol.

I hope to see you all on Friday, December 19, for Friday Morning Moms.  Diane will also be leading us in an Advent meditation and we’ll be lighting our own Advent wreath.

Grace and peace,
